Welcome to The Codex

The Nordic Mythology Codex – Which you may also see labelled as The Norse Mythology Encyclopedia – is massive ongoing project of mine in which I've set out to create a simple and comprehensive database of everything I can find in the Norse Myths.

I've organised them into categories, and the icons below will link you to each page. there, you'll find a list of the relevant entities, with a brief synopsis of each. Have fun exploring! And if you want to support this project:

Codex – Key Info

What is the Codex?

The Nordic Mythology Codex is a database of everything Norse Mythology – categorised into groups of similar entities and then presented as a series of lists here on my website.

Those categorised lists contain entries for every relevant being I could find, and each entry comes with the following:

  • The English Name
  • The Old Norse Name
  • A Younger Futhark Transliteration (The Name in runes)
  • A Brief Synopsis
  • A Bindrune of the Runic Name (Exclusive to the eBook)

It's a resource I created to help with my understanding of the Norse Myths. And if it can help me (which it has) it cen certainly help you too. All of the information within the eBook is available for free on this website. The only thing that's really 'exclusive' to the eBook are the 250+ bindrunes I created to be used as tattoos. And, of course,  an easier reading experience.

Why I Started This Project

You know what... I don't even remember 😅

I think I started the codex/encyclopedia out of frustration. My work is mostly themed around the Norse Myths, and the Norse Myths are incredibly confusing. There are so many beings in the 9 realms, many of which go by various names, and their lore can vary between sources.

After the release of my first eBook – The Runes – I saw the success of that as the perfect opportunity to start the next ambitious project, which is this one.

I had absolutely no idea what I was getting myself into, and I think it took over 6 months of work to create the first version of the eBook. It's stacked with content, but. compared to the long term vision for this project – I've barely scratched the surface.

The Codex here on my website runs in tandem with the Book/eBook project, and I'll be back to update this as often as my time will allow me to <3

The Current eBook

The current eBook – The Norse Mythology Encyclopedia – is the first version of the project. If you already own the ebook – all future updates are free to you. And the same is true if you buy it now or at any point before the final book file is made and published.

I manage a lot of different things as just myself, and all of my projects are ridiculously ambitious. So to make managing all of this doable, I release my eBooks unfinished (but still with enough content to make buying the first version worth it) and I gradually update them with time until the final version is done.

It's like a preorder for the final thing, but you get to see the progress through the updates. In it's current state the eBook has over 250+ entries, and every entry has a Younger Futhark bindrune for their name which can be used as a personal tattoo.

When you buy the eBook,

You essentially buy me the that time to work on my projects. It's greatly appreciated, and it allows me to work on the short term financial projects (like my commissions) alongside the long term financial projects like my eBooks, projects and this website.

The planned Hardcover Book

If you haven't yet seen my first Hardcover book – you can check that out here: Hávamál: The Wisdom of Odin

The Codex will be getting the same treatment, just on a whole other level. The Havamal is 364 pages, which will be the standard page count for all of my major book publications. Except this one. The Codex will be massive – full of illustrative art, runic art, lore and who knows what else.

I don't have a release date as it would be pointless for me to do so. The Havamal was released over a year behind schedule. I've learned my lesson to just let these things develop naturally.

But it is coming – and when I do release it, anyone who own's the eBook will recieve the price of the eBook as a discount from the physical book. A little thank you from me for supporting the process <3

To save you any confusion

The Norse Mythology Encyclopedia and The Nordic Mythology Codex are the same thing. The Encyclopedia was the original name for the project way back when I created and launched the eBook.

The Codex is the rebranding of that original idea – I just haven't applied that rebranding to the eBook yet.
